Workshop: Plein Air with Brad Davis

July 20-21st, 2024

Plein Air Painting with Southern Vermont Vistas

Join us for a summer weekend of Plein Air painting with visiting faculty, Brad Davis, a skilled painter and art educator from Ohio. Brad has done lots of painting in nearby Maine but this will be his first foray in Vermont’s Connecticut River Valley and the Green Mountains. Working en plein air is a wonderful way to practice direct, observational painting and drawing, and get plenty of sunshine and fresh air too!

The course will take place in two gorgeous locations with both east and west facing vistas, featuring both mountains and rivers, as well as picturesque villages and towns. Both locals and visiting artists are welcome to join us for this workshop! We hope to foster artistic connection and exchange for a broad community of artists in Vermont and afar.

The workshop will take place over 2 weekend days, with 4 painting sessions:

10am – 1pm painting in charming Bellows Falls, VT with a view of the Connecticut River and the nearby mountains of New Hampshire. On Saturday am, Brad will do a live plein air demonstration.

Break for lunch – grab a bite in nearby Bellows Falls at the wonderful cafes, or pack a lunch to picnic.

2pm-6pm painting in nearby Saxtons River, VT at the In Situ Polyculture campus, on a West facing hill with fantastic sunset-view of the southern Green Mountains. Brad will be available for additional demonstration, critique, and technique during both sessions, both days.

In Situ’s Art Barn is open for all attendees who wish to keep painting into the night, or to leave paintings to dry overnight.

Coffee, tea and light snacks will be available at In Situ during the afternoon session.
