Residencies, Workshops & Events

  • Self-directed Residencies (productive art vacation)

Scheduled between May and October, artists, writers and creative folk can attend self-directed residency retreats on the Hartley Hill commons in Westminster, VT. We use open call applications, invitationals, and alumni recommendation and request to build our residency cohorts and calendars.

Between 2-6 artists can work on-site at a time; only 2 if the artists are solo workers with great need for private space, and up to 6 if those in the group are collaborators, looking for a more social experience, and enjoy shared accommodations.

On-site facilities for self directed retreats include: live-work space in the two yurts, ample tenting and camping space in the meadows and woods, and access to both private and shared studio spaces in our 2000 square foot renovated art-barn. A guest kitchen is fully outfitted for self-catering, and there are both an indoor guest bathroom, and an outdoor shower.

Focus and work at your own pace, rest in the peaceful rural setting, and enjoy being in a small creative cohort with access to the beautiful land and wonderful local community.

Both Self-Directed & Collaboration Residencies may appear as an Open Call Application, or may be proposed / requested and scheduled. Applications for residencies have no submission fee, and residency fees are on a sliding-scale, with 3 suggested rates for those who can afford, those who cannot, and those who wish to invest in opportunities for other artists.

  • Collaborative Group Residencies (making your art with your collaborators or in community with your art pals)

Scheduled between May and October, creative collaborators can apply for a group residency retreat on the Hartley Hill commons in Westminster, VT.

Between 2-6 artists can live and work on-site at a time; 2-3 if the collaborators require or prefer private accommodations, and up to 6 if those in the group enjoy shared accommodations.

Retreats for groups of up to 12 are available if off-site housing is utilized with one of our partner inns, or for local artists who live nearby and choose not to stay on campus.

  • Workshops & Retreats

Workshops and curated retreats of up to 12 people offer a more educational, hands-on programming component than self-directed residencies. These may include partnerships with other arts and education nonprofits, special visiting faculty, curatorial partnerships, collaborative cohorts, and public programming at nearby venues.

Generally these types of programs will be listed on our Programs page with a Registration application and a set faculty fee, as well as scholarship opportunities for those in need.

  • Questions? Proposals? Lets Make It Happen!

We always have some workshop and residency programming in the works, however we welcome proposals from artists, curators and other organizations!

    You may send us a proposal or query at any time for;

Self-Directed Residencies (or as we like to think of them, incredibly important art-vacations)

Collaborative Group Residencies (making your art with your collaborators or in community with your art pals)

Workshop/Retreat offerings on our Campus for the public

    Institutional Collaborations
