2024 Residency Open Call

Artists, writers and creative folk can now apply for a 2024 residency retreat on our Hartley Hill commons in Westminster, VT. The current Open Call application period is April 15 – May 15th, 2024. We only accept applications during our open call periods, but proposals for retreats and residencies can be submitted year round through our Proposal Form or contacting us at hello@insitupolyculture.org.

During a self-directed residency at In Situ Polyculture, focus and work at your own pace, rest in the peaceful rural setting, and enjoy being in a small creative cohort with access to the beautiful land and wonderful local communities of Saxtons River, Bellows Falls, and other surrounding Southern Vermont villages.

Between 2-6 artists can work on-site at a time; 2-3 if the artists are solo workers with great need for private space, and up to 6 if those in the group are collaborators, looking for a more social experience, and enjoy shared accommodations. Group Retreats for groups of up to 10 are also available if off-site housing is utilized with one of our partner inns, or for local artists who live nearby and choose not to stay on campus.

Both individual artist applicants and collaborative groups submit a single application, below. Contact information will be collected for all group members, but no need for multiple applications! Supporting the work of creative groups and collaborators is a part of our mission.

Applicants must choose to apply for a date range session, listed below, but can self-select their preferred dates of arrival, length of stay and departure. Your dates must fall within the session date range. Exceptions may be possible, please note on you application.

Residency fees are offered on a self-selected sliding-scale basis to accepted applicants, with 3 suggested rates:

  1. In Situ Residency: $50–$75 per day for those who can afford to cover their residency costs.
  2. Equity Residency: $20–$30 per day, a subsidized rate for those with economic need.
  3. Invest in Art Community Residency: $100+ per day for those who wish to invest in opportunities for other artists by covering their own residency cost and beyond.  Additional donations are always welcome and encouraged for those who can afford. Residency fees and donations directly fund fellowships, scholarships, artist stipends, our creative community co-fundraising efforts, and other resources for artists.

*A tax deductible receipt will be available for all fees paid beyond residency cost.

It is the prerogative of all working artists to preserve their resources and access support from institutions, and we strive to be a resource for artists instead of taking resources from artists. That being said, for those applicants who are comfortably able to afford the In Situ Residency fees, or the Invest in Art Community Residency fees, we hope you will choose those rates and help us to build a sustainable business!

Applicants will receive notice of either invitation or regrets by end of May, 2024.
