This workshop is for folks who want to work with clay and decouple from industrial ceramics practice, learn about pottery through local knowledge, develop connection to place and confidence in their own agency to work with found clay!
Prior experience with clay is recommended but absolutely not required. This is an all levels workshop with something to offer both seasoned ceramicists and clay foragers, as well as novice potters.
Sliding Scale: $50 – $200: This will cover a small fee for the visiting faculty, firewood, etc. In Situ will also provide studio space, coffee & tea, and light refreshments. Participants can identify the price that feels best for them. Fee due at time of workshop. (Cash, check & venmo accepted)

Identifying clay sources, foraging, processing and preparing wild clay, terra sigillata & glaze options
• In between the event Sundays, folks will take their clay home, make vessels, sculpture and tiles (etc.), and be given plentiful suggestions and recommendations for bisqueing, oven-candling, and other best practices to prepare for the pit-fire day.

Visiting Faculty: Jo Watko is a mutli-disciplinary artist with over 20 years of professional ceramics experience, including as a studio tech for commercial pottery production, a ceramic technician and instructor at teaching studios, and through her own pottery practice which includes wild clay processing as well as vessels, sculpture, and installation. She earned a BFA in both Ceramics and Painting from Tyler School of Art (2008). She is also an alumnus of numerous ISPC workshops and residency sessions.
